Music Department Lesson Awards are grants presented to registered University of Chicago students who are active participants in the Performance Program to help defray the cost of private lessons in applied music. The grants are awarded on the basis of competitive auditions and may be used to cover up to 80% of the total cost of a student's private lessons in the 2020-21 academic year.
String players, pianists, and vocalists who are active members of a Department of Music ensemble or program also have opportunities to receive free coaching sessions with Department of Music performance faculty. Each student may sign up for a maximum of two 30-minute individual coaching sessions per quarter, and they are encouraged to do so. Sign-up procedures will be outlined by each ensemble or program director, and are available by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Applications for 2020-2021 Music Lesson Awards are due by Friday, October 30, 2020. For more details about music lessons, Music Lesson Awards, and how to apply, view the Music Lessons and Music Lesson Awards information sheet linked below.
