Earlier in March, the Performance Program had the honor of hosting violinist William Hagen as part of the Visiting Artist-in-Residence program. Hagen began his weeklong residency with a Saturday morning recital at Montgomery Place, followed by a Sunday evening recital in the Logan Center for the Arts Performance Hall. The program for both of these performances featured works from William Hagen and Albert Cano Smit’s 2020 album, Danse Russe. Hagen was joined by Albert Cano Smit for both of these performances, as well as a performance in the Sky Lobby of the Center for Care and Discovery in partnership with the UChicago Medicine Healing Arts Program.
Hagen spent the week visiting high school string programs, working with UChicago Performance Program chamber ensembles and violinists, and rehearsing with the University Symphony Orchestra in preparation for a performance of Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2 on Saturday, March 1. It was a very busy and fulfilling week. Hagen had an impact on our university and surrounding community that will be felt for many years to come. If you missed the performance on March 1, the live stream can be found on the Department of Music YouTube channel.
