Forbidden Songs with soprano Lydia Rathkolb

Internationally acclaimed Austrian soprano Lydia Rathkolb, frequent soloist with the Vienna State Opera, joins UChicago Director of Piano Studies Eugenia Jeong for a concert of “forbidden music.” The program features works by Iván Eröd, Gustav Mahler, Eric Zeisl, Leonard Bernstein, and Fritz Kreisler, including songs composed for children during the Nazi Regime.

Professor Oliver Rathkolb presents a pre-concert lecture at 7 PM on "forbidden music" and the plight of persecuted and outlawed Austrian musicians.
