Fulton Recital Hall, Goodspeed Hall 4th Floor

Members of the Chamber Music Program present a concert of “Music for Friends and Loved Ones.” At the center of the program is Mozart’s Sonata for Piano and Violin No. 21 in E minor, which was written during a trying time in Mozart’s life during which his mother became gravely ill and ultimately passed away. Bookending the program are two works by Dmitri Shostakovich, his Piano Quintet in G Minor and his second Piano Trio in E minor. The trio was dedicated to a friend of Shostakovich’s following his death and the quintet was written for Shostakovich himself alongside a string quartet of his friends. The quintet was an immediate success and became a crowd favorite, helping Shostakovich achieve his goal in writing this piece: to be invited alongside his friends’ quartet to travel outside of Moscow to perform the piece.

Free admission. Must reserve tickets in advance.
