Praised for their “luxuriously warm sound” (New York Times) and “wonderful, selfless music-making” (The Times, London), the Brentano String Quartet has been a leading voice in chamber music since 1992. With a fearless interpretive voice and a flair for smart, distinctive programming, the ensemble has collaborated with artists such as Joyce DiDonato, Mitsuko Uchida, and Jonathan Biss, and has commissioned works from Gabriela Lena Frank and Vijay Iyer. Based at the Yale School of Music, where they serve as Artists-in-Residence, Brentano continues to shape the future of the string quartet through performance and mentorship.
Their UChicago program features Haydn at his most playful, Bartók at his most bracing, and Dvořák in full lyric flight. With three decades of insight behind every phrase, Brentano delivers a tour-de-force evening of string quartet mastery.
