This year, the South Asian Music Ensemble (SAME) has centered around a case study of 5 Elements of Nature (Panchabhoothas). This concert will provide a sampling of this musical exploration of 5 Elements of Nature by showcasing pieces in various ragas & talas. The program’s diversity will also stem from the languages — Tamil, Sanskrit, Hindi, etc. — and ragas (melodic frameworks) — Nagaswarali, Naattai, Hamsadhwani, Kalyanavasantham, Amruthavarshini, Surya, Madhyamavathi, Kadanakuthuhalam, etc. — it will showcase. These pieces will alternatively feature the full ensemble, only instrumentalists, and a chamber group format.
Complimentary tea and cookies are served at 4:15 PM, and the music begins at 4:30 PM.
