Two Venetian brothers, Marco and Giuseppe, are happy with their lives as gondoliers and newlyweds when the arrival of a stranger turns their world upside down. One brother is secretly the heir to a far-off foreign throne—except that nobody knows which brother is the king. To complicate matters, the king was married as an infant to a princess, meaning one of the gondoliers has two wives! All is wrapped up happily, though, thanks to a trademark Gilbertian twist.

Tickets: $25-50, $10 students. Purchase at tickets.uchicago.edu beginning January 20.

Since 1984, the Department of Music and the Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company have collaborated to mount an annual Gilbert and Sullivan show. Any proceeds from this year’s production will benefit the Department’s Performance Program.
