Positioned at the heart of a world-renowned academic institution, the Department of Music offers graduate degrees in Composition, Ethnomusicology, and Music History and Theory. The Department also offers an undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. Complementing them is a lively performance program that involves undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral students.

Augusta Read Thomas commissioned by consortium led by Santa Fe Opera, San Francisco Opera

Augusta Read Thomas has been commissioned by a consortium of opera companies, led by the Santa Fe Opera in association with the San Francisco Opera. Her new opera will receive its world premiere in 2019 at the Santa Fe Opera, and will be realized in collaboration with librettist Jason Kim.

Timothy Page wins 2017 SEAMUS/ASCAP Award

Graduate composer Timothy Page has just been declared a winner of the 2017 SEAMUS/ASCAP Award. The prize includes a commission for an electroacoustic work that will be premiered at the Society for Electroacoustic Music Conference in the Spring of 2018.

Congratulations to Jessica Peritz, Winner of a 2017-18 Rome Prize

Jessica Gabriel Peritz, Ph.D. Candidate, has been announced as the winner of the Marian and Andrew Heiskell Pre-Doctoral Rome Prize for 2017-18. Her dissertation project on Italian opera entitled: The Lyric Mode of Voice: Song and Subjectivity in Italy, 1769–1815 earned her one of the most distinguished and competitive fellowships available to researchers and artists anywhere.
