In Memoriam: Scott Landvatter

Scott Landvatter smiling

With profound sorrow, the Music Department remembers the passing of Scott A. Landvatter (1951-2022), former student in the PhD program, Music Cataloguer in the Regenstein Library, and then Music Bibliographer from 2004 until ill-health led to his retirement. Scott was a wonderful and life-giving presence on the third floor of the Reg, always ready to pursue faculty and student needs, to orient generations of incoming students through the Autumn library visits, and to lend a friendly ear to everyone.  Not only did he curate the Music collection with amazing professionality, but his warmth calmed many a faculty and student heart over the years. He took particular pride in two young boys whom he shepherded into adulthood, as well as in singing, playing guitar, and church activities. He was active in the Music Library Association, and curated innumerable third-floor exhibits, working closely and carefully with graduate students.  Even with severe health problems, he retained his upbeat and caring spirit. We will miss him enormously. Funeral services were held in Sandy, UT, on 3 May 2022.
