Prahlad Singh Tipaniya and Kabir Singers

Prahlad Singh Tipaniya and Kabir Singers

March 31, 2024 | 4:00PM
Logan Center Penthouse, 901

The songs of the fifteenth-century mystic poet Kabir and his fellow nirgun bhakti saints are still very much alive in India (and beyond); perhaps the most prominent singer and teacher of Kabir's poetry in the present day is Prahlad Singh Tipaniya. Born in the village of Lunyakhedi in Madhya Pradesh, Tipaniya has come to be known around the world for his singing, teaching, and activism. Please join us for a free concert with Tipaniya, members of his singing group, and Linda Hess, a scholar of Kabir's poetry and author of Bodies of Song: Kabir Oral Traditions and Performative Worlds in North India (Oxford University Press, 2015). The group will be introduced by Tyler W. Williams of the Department of South Asian Languages and Civilizations and Anna Schultz of the Department of Music.

Please note that the concert will be held in the Penthouse of the Logan Center for the Arts, which is accessible to the disabled.

This event is sponsored by the Committee on Southern Asian Studies at the University of Chicago.
