Sidra Lawrence joins Department as ethnomusicology post-doc

Sidra Lawrence will be joining us as a post-doc in ethnomusicology during the 2012-13 academic year. Sidra works on Afro-Caribbean music, gender, and African music, and received her PhD at the University of Texas at Austin in 2011. This past year Sidra has been an Instructor at Bowling Green State University; her current research concerns female musicians in West Africa (Ghana and Burkina Faso), with attention to Dagara women’s narratives and tactics of power relevant to the racialization of gendered behavior. During Winter term she will offer a course entitled "Musical Performances of Race, Gender, and Sexuality."
