Nadia Chana and Lester Hu were awarded the 2017 Howard Mayer Brown Fellowship from the American Musicological Society.
William Buckingham was the recipient of Charles Seeger Prize for his paper “Disaster, Displacement, and Genre Death in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana” delivered at the 2016 conference in Washington, DC. The Seeger prize recognizes “the most distinguished student paper presented … at the previous year’s meeting.”
Nadia Chana won the Ida Halpern Prize, which is awarded to “support research on Native American Music of the United States and Canada,” for her dissertation-in-progress “Urgent Listening: Embodied Practices as a Response to Ecological Crisis.”
Devon Borowski won the the best student paper award at the AMS Midwest for his paper "Singing White Womanhood: Bach’s Kaffeekantate and the Erotics of Enlightenment Cannibalism.”
Lester Hu also won the Harold Powers World Travel Award.
