Pro Arte Quartet Winter Residency

Pro Arte Quartet at Merit

In January, the Pro Arte Quartet launched their residency as the 2025-2026 Visiting Artist-in-Residence with our Chamber Music Program. The quartet has been working very closely with Heather Wittels for the past year planning a side-by-side performance experience for the chamber music students.

Their residency started with a stunning program in the Logan Center for the Arts Performance Hall that featured works by Caroline Shaw, Denys Lytvynenko, and Beethoven. The quartet took this inspiring program to several spaces in the community during their January and February visits, including the Chicagoland High School for the Arts, the Sky Lobby of the Center for Care and Discovery through UChicago’s Healing Arts Program, the Merit School of Music, and Montgomery Place Assisted Living.

Throughout their residency, members of the Pro Arte Quartet have also worked closely with select chamber music ensembles at Kenwood Academy in Hyde Park. They have coached Kenwood students on works by Florence Price and William Grant Still. The Kenwood chamber ensembles will be featured in the culminating side-by-side performance with University of Chicago chamber music students on Sunday, March 29 at 6:00 pm in Fulton Recital Hall.

During their final visit at the end of March, the Pro Arte Quartet will also visit the University of Chicago Lab School orchestra and chamber collective programs and the People’s Music School Back of the Yards location.

For more information about the side-by-side program on March 29, please visit the event webpage.
