Members of Department elected to AAAS

Dear friends,

It is with the greatest pleasure that I share with you the remarkable news that two of our esteemed colleagues, Martha Feldman, Mabel Greene Myers Professor of Music and the Humanities and Chair of the Department of Music, and Augusta Read Thomas, University Professor, have just been elected members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Here is the announcement by the AAAS:

2012 Class of Fellows and Foreign Honorary Members Elected

The Academy announced today the election of leaders in the sciences, the humanities and the arts, business, public affairs, and the nonprofit sector. The new class of 201 Fellows and 17 Foreign Honorary Members comes from 23 states and 10 countries and represents nearly 100 institutions.

The new members will be inducted at a ceremony on October 6, 2012, in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

This is a stellar honor for Martha and for Gusty, and a cause of immense pride for the Music Department and the University of Chicago. I know you will want to join me in saluting them both for yet another exceptional, richly deserved achievement.

Kudos Martha and Gusty. Way to go!
