Augusta Read Thomas awarded Order of Lincoln by Lincoln Academy of Illinois

Dear Friends and Colleagues of the Department of Music--

I write to share the very happy news that our colleague Augusta Read Thomas has been awarded the Order of Lincoln by the Lincoln Academy of Illinois for her extraordinary contributions to the world of music. The Order of Lincoln was established by the Governor of Illinois in 1964 and is awarded annually to seven distinguished residents or former residents of Illinois for public service or professional attainment. (N.B.: this year the Order of Lincoln was also awarded to Prof. Bernard Rands, who has served as a visiting professor in our Department.) Former recipients include such distinguished musicians as Maria Tallchief, Benny Goodman, Mahalia Jackson, Sherrill Milnes, and Ardis Krainik.

Please join me in congratulating Gusty on the receipt of this prestigious award.

All the best
