Wayne G. Gordon, Director, University Wind Ensemble
Wayne G. Gordon, director of the University Wind Ensemble, is a graduate of Northwestern University, where he earned both bachelor's and master's degrees in music education and conducting. Gordon studied arranging and conducting with the late John P. Paynter and horn with renowned Chicago Symphony musicians Richard Oldberg and Norman Schweikert. Prior to his appointment at the U of C in 1990, he taught high school band in Southern Maryland.
Gordon continues to teach in the public schools in Northbrook, Illinois, has served on the faculty of the Illinois Summer School for the Arts and the National High School Music Institute, and is a former member of the Northshore Concert Band. He is also a clinician, arranger of music for winds, and presenter at conferences. A member of the national honorary music fraternity Pi Kappa Lambda, Gordon is active with the Music Educators National Conference, the Illinois Music Educators Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
