Artists in Residenceimage

The Department sponsors several Artist-in-Residence ensembles: the award-winning Pacifica Quartet, recent winners of the coveted Avery Fisher career grant; contemporary music specialists eighth blackbird; and the famed Newberry Consort, acclaimed for historically accurate performances on original period instruments from the eleventh- through eighteenth-centuries. In addition to performing concerts sponsored by the University of Chicago Presents , these groups work with student musicians in sectionals, coachings, and open rehearsals. Also in residence for 2007-2008 is the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, composed of 35 virtuoso musicians and widely regarded as one of the finest chamber ensembles in the world.
