The Department of Music collaborates with the University of Chicago Presents in bringing guest artists to campus for top-level performances of chamber music, jazz, new music, chamber orchestral music, early music, and world music both as parts of its various ongoing series and for special events. In 2008 the University of Chicago Presents, under the expert guidance of Executive Director Shauna Quill, staged a highly successful all-city Messiaen Festival for the hundredth anniversary of the composer’s birth.
The University of Chicago Presents regularly puts on concert series that grow directly from activities in the Department of Music: the Artist-in-Residence series featuring the Pacifica Quartet, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra series, and the Contempo series.
The University of Chicago Presents works offers deeply discounted tickets to students as part of its program of educational outreach and audience-building.
