University of Chicago Presents
Professional Concert Series
A major force in the cultural life of the city, The University of Chicago Presents (the Office of Professional Concerts), is devoted to the performance of classical music. Each season, under its auspices, Chicago Presents covers the entire gamut of music history bringing many of today's most important classical musicians on its four subscription series.
Created in 1981, The Howard Mayer Brown International Early Music Series continues to be recognized nationally for its innovative programming, and is one of the only series in the country to present period instrument and vocal ensembles. For over fifty years, the Chamber Music Series, now called the Classic Concert Series, has been responsible for recognizing and debuting many brilliant and emerging artists such as violinists Isaac Stern and Hilary Hahn, singers Cecilia Bartoli and Ian Bostridge, and the Juilliard String Quartet. Contempo, formerly known as the Contemporary Chamber Players, was founded in 1964 by the late composer and Professor Emeritus Ralph Shapey, and maintains its trend of bold innovation and cutting edge performances of contemporary music played by, among others, two of the Music Department's dazzling Artists-in-Residence - the Pacifica Quartet and eighth blackbird.
In the acoustically perfect setting of Mandel Hall, The University of Chicago Presents offers students a chance to hear world-class artists in their own backyard. Discounted tickets for students are available.
