Grossman Ensemble project sparks surge of creative energy
Marking a new era in new music for this city of proud musical institutions, December 2018 brought the formal debut of the Grossman Ensemble as a contemporary sinfonietta comprising thirteen nationally known, entrepreneurially minded, award-winning instrumentalists who have made a commitment to collaborate with a dozen or more composers each season.
Wet Ink, co-directed by Assistant Professor Sam Pluta, named Best Ensemble of 2018 by The New York Times
Last week The New York Times printed its list of "Best Classical Music of 2018," naming Wet Ink the best ensemble. Assistant Professor of Composition Sam Pluta is one seven world class composers, improvisers, and interpreters that collaborate to co-direct the ensemble.
Anna C. Schultz receives Society of Ethnomusicology's Jaap Kunst Prize Honorable Mention
The Department of Music is pleased to share the news that Associate Professor of Music and the Humanities Anna C. Schultz has received the Jaap Kunst Prize 2018 Honorable Mention for her article "Translated Fronts: Songs of Socialist Cosmopolitanism in Cold War India." History and Anthropology 28, no. 1 (2017): 1-22.
